Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Neta Matthews Wade, 97 of Lillington passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. She was born in Johnston County on August 29, 1920 to the late L. Oris and Sarah Hodges Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Clifton Wade; sisters, Blanche Miller, Janie Currin, and Geraldine Jackson; brothers, C. T. Matthews, Jeff Matthews, Yokum Matthews and Roland Matthews. Mrs. Wade was an independent, successful business woman who co-owned with her husband for many years Wade’s Restaurant in Lillington and also co-owned and operated a successful catering business. Mrs. Wade purchased and successfully managed rental property in the Dunn area in her 60’s when most people are thinking about retiring. She was known for her strong work ethic and encouragement of others to do the best job in whatever tasks they undertook.

Neta’s hobbies included maintaining a pristine home and yard. She was very creative and enjoyed crafting and knitting. She was always ready for a challenging game of Canasta. Her love of cooking was known by many who enjoyed her chocolate pies.

Mrs. Wade dearly loved her family and is survived by her son, Terry L. Wade and wife Hollie of Lillington; 2 granddaughters, Audrea Christensen and husband Josh of Coats, Amanda Capozzi and husband Dan of Toano, VA; 2 great-granddaughters, Katherine “Katie” Christensen and Jaylen Christensen.

A graveside service will be held at 5:00 PM Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Westview Cemetery in Lillington with Rev. Jeff Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Tuesday from 4:00-4:45 PM.
