Neill Turner West III



Neill Turner West, III, age 21 of Colorado Springs, formerly of Buies Creek, died Friday, December 22, 2017 in Colorado. Turner was a Senior Airman with the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Schriever Air Force Base in Colorado Springs in Space Command. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Neill Turner West, Sr. and his maternal grandparents, Wendell and Sue Carr. Turner attended Harnett Central High School and Benjamin Cardozo High School and was the valedictorian of the 2013 Tarheel Challenge Academy in Salemburg.

Turner had so many interests and talents. He loved Star Wars, Dr. Who, singing and rock and roll music, especially Journey. Turner also loved playing video games, especially Jak and Daxter and Skyrim. He also played the trumpet and the guitar. Turner enjoyed playing Chess, performing magic tricks and had a passion for Astronomy. He had an affinity for spicy foods of all kinds. Turner had an infectious smile and would light up a room. He volunteered and entertained children in hospitals and schools.

Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek with Rev. Glenn Jonas officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tricia Carr.

Turner is survived by his father, Neill Turner West, Jr. of Floral Park, NY and his mother, Tricia Carr of Buies Creek. Paternal grandmother, Dottie West of Clinton. Brother, Joseph Stewart West of Floral Park, NY. Sister, Stephanie Marie West also of Floral Park, NY. Uncle, Chris Carr of Sanford. Aunts; Terri West Holder of Lillington, Cheri West Strickland of Benson, and Martie West of Coats. Many family, friends, brothers-in-arms, too numerous to name.
