Wilma Gray Badgett Womble, 97, of Lillington, NC, passed away peacefully at Oak Hill Living Center on May 18, 2017 with her family by her side. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 29, 2017. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home followed by a private family graveside service conducted by Reverend Daniel Selman.
Wilma was born in Oxford, NC to Nannie Hart and Joseph Baskerville Badgett on January 17, 1920. Wilma graduated from Meredith College in 1940 and moved to Harnett County to teach Home Economics. One of her school projects sent her to Womble’s store to buy seeds for planting. Robert Womble sold her the seeds and as they say, “the rest is history.” Robert and Wilma celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary in 2016.
Wilma was an avid gardener and reader and could answer any questions on Jeopardy. She was also a faithful member of Lillington Baptist Church and sang beautiful solos in the choir for many years. (She and her beloved sister Marie are now singing glorious hymns in Heaven.)
Through her life she has demonstrated strength, faith in God, humility, gratitude, kindness and joy even in the mist of suffering. She was overwhelmingly disheartened by the death of her husband Robert seven weeks ago. We are grateful for the privilege of having her love and prayers through the years.
Wilma is survived by her three children: Roberta Marie Womble, Robert Joseph Womble (Martha), and George Earl Womble (Rebecca).
Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Jesse Jones (Sue), Burt Jones (Heather), Kimberly Jones, Rob Jones, Caleb Womble, Robin Womble, Badgett Womble (Marla), and Holly Womble Buceti (PJ). She is additionally blessed to have fourteen great grandchildren: Christopher and Evie Blacka, Parker and Olivia Womble, Blake, Bennett, Michala, and Eva Gray Jones, Will and Currin Jones, Joseph, Isabella, and Lily Buceti, and Willow Womble.
The family is very grateful for all the friends who visited Wilma through the years, the very caring staff at Oak Hill Living Center, and the wonderful Hospice care givers.
Jesse Jones continued making his Mama Will’s life more enjoyable by bringing Snow Bell and Jingle Bell to visit, and by streaming music from her generation for sing-a-longs. Her family was her earthly treasure. Her legacy is her faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ, who was her rock, her confidence that God hears and answers prayer, her assurance of eternal life, and her love of Gods Word.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making any contributions in Wilma’s memory to Lillington Baptist Church, 210 W Lofton St, Lillington, NC 27546.
“For behold, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come.” Song of Soloman 2:11-12

Wilma was a wonderful person and had such a beautiful smile. She was always so happy when we would visit at Oak Hill. We will truly miss her. We have no doubt that Robert was waiting for her and singing "Let me call you Sweetheart" as God welcomed her to His Loving and Forever Kingdom. May the Love of God be with you all; you are in our thoughts and prayers.
