Janet Azalee Wood Currin



Mrs. Janet Azalee Wood Currin, 85, of Lillington passed away Friday, March 31, 2017 at her home. She was born in Mamers, the daughter of the late Malcolm James and Mollie O’Quinn Wood. Azalee worked with Sexton’s Department Store in Lillington for 6 years. She worked as a Teacher’s Assistant and Bus Driver for Boone Trail Elementary School and retired after 28 years of service. Azalee was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Woodmen of the World. She was instrumental in the organization of the Meals on Wheels program in Mamers. Azalee enjoyed working in the yard and cooking. She was preceded in death by sisters, Flarie W. Cameron, Beulah W. Kelly, Beatrice W. Bradburn, Bethora W. Brown, Genora W. Force; brothers, Clayton Wood and Cameron Wood. Azalee was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and loved the Lord.

Azalee is survived by her husband of 66 years, James Carlton “J.C.” Currin of the home; daughter, Janet Currin Thomas and husband, Edwin of Lillington; son, James Mark Currin and wife, Renee of Lillington, 5 grandchildren, Brian Thomas and wife Morgan, Jonathan Butler and wife Justice, Kelli Worrell and husband Robert, Matt Currin and Josh Currin; 4 great-grandchildren, Wyatt Butler, Kenley and Averie Worrell and Marlee Grace Thomas expected August 2017.

Funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 PM Monday, April 3, 2017 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Deaton and Rev. Robbie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 3:00-4:00 PM and other times at the home.
