Obituary

MSG. (E8) Lloyd E. George, Sr. (Ret) US Army, 81, of Lillington passed away Saturday, October 14, 2017. He was born in Utica, KS, the son of the late James Glenn George and Emma Hazel Clodfelter George. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Maria George; grandson, Jeffrey George and brother, Vernis George. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 6722 in Lillington and the American Legion Post 116 in Fuquay Varina. Lloyd was a highly decorated soldier with 2 tours in Vietnam and Okinawa. He also was stationed in Germany, Thailand and the Philippines. After retiring from the Army, Lloyd worked for Civil Service and was the owner of Sherman Oil Company in Lillington. He was an avid UNC Tarheel fan and loved spending time with his friends at Hardees and the VFW. Lloyd loved spending time with his 2 dogs, Sally and Bootsie.

Lloyd is survived by his son, Lloyd J. George, Jr. of Lillington; 4 daughters, Kathy Brown and husband Danny of Holly Springs, Christine Williams and husband Gary of Lillington, Peggy Bryant and husband Chester of Fuquay Varina, Patricia Anderson and husband James of Fuquay Varina; 7 grandchildren, Christina, Danny, Bryan, Ashley, Samantha, Wayne and Rebecca; 8 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 5:00 PM Thursday, October 19, 2017 at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel with Rev. Ben Pearce officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00-5:00 PM and other times at the home of Lloyd George, Jr.
