Dylan Knox

Dylan James Knox, father, son, brother and dear friend, died unexpectedly on October 8, 2017 at the age of 32. Dylan, a gentle and loving young man, was born in Raleigh, and after moving to Lillington with his family, was captain of his high school tennis team, the Harnett Central Trojans. At Methodist University, he played on the college team, and graduated from the Professional Tennis Management program.

Dylan found his passion for sport and mentoring of young athletes on the tennis court, and often said that being able to make a career of what he loved doing was a dream come true. Having worked as a tennis pro at several clubs on the east coast for many years, he was employed at the time of his death by North Hills Club in Raleigh, where he was valued by staff and members alike.

Although Dylan excelled on the court, his greatest love was his 3-year-old daughter, Shelby. Every minute with her was an adventure! Dylan instilled his love of life and athletics in his daughter. Dylan was “that dad” coming down the slide, or climbing the jungle gym, with Shelby.

Dylan brightened any room with smiles and laughter. With his great and loving heart, he saw only the best in others. As a follower of Jesus Christ, and in obedience, Dylan was baptized last year as part of his profession of faith.

In addition to his daughter Shelby Morgan Knox, and her mother Lacey Hayes, Dylan is survived by his father David Knox and his wife, Jennifer McCall, brother Nolan Knox (Katherine), sister Lauren Knox Bowling (Shannon), and grandparents Hal and Ellen Clapper. His beloved friend Hannah Hargis-Bullen, and step-brothers William McCall (Amanda) and Joseph Gilbert will also cherish his memory. Nieces and nephew, Allison, Maggie, Paisley and Knox, loved their Uncle Dylan, who always gave them his full attention.

The family will receive friends at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:45 PM. The service will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Jon McClarnon of Lifepointe Church officiating. Burial will take place in Westview Cemetery in Lillington, where Dylan will be laid to rest beside his mother, Wanda Knox, and sister, Shannon Louellen Knox, who preceded him in death.

To honor Dylan and his legacy, his daughter Shelby, the family requests that memorial gifts for Shelby’s education be submitted in lieu of flowers.
