W.K. "Billy" Sexton



Mr. W.K. “Billy” Sexton, 96, of Lillington died Sunday, March 26, 2017 in Lillington. Billy was born in Harnett County, the son of the late Roger and Laura Parish Sexton. He was a US Navy veteran and served during WWII. Billy owned and operated Sexton’s Department Store in Lillington for 34 years. He was a member of Lillington Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday school teacher. Billy was instrumental in the foundation and start up of what is now Fellowship Baptist Church in Lillington. He was extremely civic minded and served in various capacities for the Lillington community. Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise Gregory Sexton; grandson, Gregory Denning; step-mother, Esther S. Sexton; 2 brothers, Jim and Coll Sexton and a sister, Kathryn Edgerton.

Billy is survived by a son, Kenneth Sexton and wife Sandra of Lillington; daughter, Laura Ann Denning and husband Dan of Lillington; 4 grandchildren, Catherine Knepper and husband Tim, Rebecca Sasser and husband Eddie, Lee Denning and wife Beverly, Rachel Denning; 5 great-grandchildren, James and Frances Knepper, Ella and Nathan Sasser, Mackenzie Denning; 2 brothers, Fred Sexton and Tommy Sexton of Lillington; 2 sisters, Ruth Rich of Fayetteville and Elizabeth Earp of Lillington; sister-in-law, Jean Sexton of Lillington.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Lillington Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Selman officiating. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 1:30-2:45 PM.
